The Association of Dental Support Organizations (ADSO) will participate in this year’s American Student Dental Association’s Annual Session in Anaheim, California from February 21-24. The ASDA Annual Session brings together nearly 600 influential and driven dental students from every dental school who are committed to moving ASDA forward and getting more involved in organized dentistry.

On Friday, February 23 from 1:15- 2:15 p.m. PST, representatives of the ADSO will present information that will help graduates determine the best career path based on their needs, wants and interests. The session entitled: “If You Only Know One DSO, You Know Only One DSO,” will be an interactive presentation that will discuss key growth data on DSOs, understanding the core benefits of affiliating with a DSO and professional growth beyond dental school. There will also be the opportunity to hear from a recent graduate that chose a career in a DSO.

The panelists have a depth of knowledge in the DSO industry and include: Dr. Shorouq Sahawney, Bright Now Dental; Dr. AJ Acierno, CEO, DecisionOne Dental Partners; Dr. Kyle Poulsen, Pacific Dental Services and Dr. Brenda Donato, Heartland Dental.

The ADSO Announces Martin Lindstrom as Opening Keynote Speaker for the Annual Summit in Austin, Texas

The Association of Dental Support Organizations (ADSO) will host the 2018 Annual Summit at the JW Marriott Austin in downtown Austin, Texas. The conference will begin the evening of April 18 and conclude Friday, April 20.

The ADSO is excited to announce that brand-building expert and best-selling author Martin Lindstrom will kick off the 2018 Summit as this year’s opening keynote speaker.  A recipient of TIME Magazine’s “Worlds 100 Most Influential People,” Lindstrom has carved out a niche as a global expert and pioneer in the fields of consumer psychology, marketing, brands, and neuroscientific research. ADSO Subscribes to the DSO DIRECTORY to Drive Membership Growth within Mid-Size and Emerging DSOs

ADSO Announces Lisa Steelman as Incoming Vice President of Government Affairs

The Association of Dental Support Organizations (ADSO) today announced Lisa Steelman as ADSO’s new Vice President of Government Affairs.  Lisa will join ADSO’s Government Relations Leadership Team that advocates on behalf of the association at the federal, state and local levels.

“My career has always reflected my passion for ensuring patient access to medical care. I have worked in health policy and regulatory issues my entire career.  I’m grateful now for this opportunity to advocate for increased patient access to quality dental care as a critical component to overall healthcare,” said Steelman.

Prior to joining ADSO, Lisa served as a member of the executive leadership team for IlliniCare where she served as a key advisor to the CEO during a critical RFP period worth over $2Billion annually.  Lisa has worked in both the private and public sector while advocating on healthcare issues, beginning her career as a legislative staffer to the Illinois General Assembly and the Office of the Governor.   At Janssen Pharmaceuticals/Johnson & Johnson, she became a national President’s Trophy Winner, a designation reserved for the top 5-percent performers.  Lisa later moved to Novartis Pharmaceuticals where she served as Regional Director, Government Relations.  During her tenure, she was also elected by industry peers to serve as the Chairman for the Illinois PhRMA Task Force.

Additionally, she founded her own company, Lisa Steelman Enterprises, a consulting firm that specializes in healthcare and government relations issues.

“Lisa’s wide-ranging knowledge and background in healthcare policy will serve to advance our priorities in Washington and around the country,” said Chris Vranas, Executive Director of ADSO. “We look forward to working with new leadership, and are confident that Lisa’s expertise will help to ensure that we remain an effective and constructive voice for the DSO industry.”

Industry CEOs to Present During Emerging DSO Conference

The Association of Dental Support Organizations (ADSO) will host the first ever Partnering for Growth 2017 conference at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center near Washington, D.C. The conference, taking place from September 21-22, will provide educational content that is geared specifically to connect with small & emerging groups, and share best practices to grow in the DSO industry.

Next Thursday, there will be a CEO Leadership Panel session where the industry’s top leaders will share best practices and provide invaluable insights in growing and developing DSOs.  Executives from some of the top DSOs in the country will present their DSO’s key differentiators as well as instruct how emerging DSOs can replicate their success.  This session will also allow for interactive discussion, permitting audience participation and questions.

Speakers during this session include:

Rich Beckman became the Chief Executive Officer of Great Expressions Dental Centers (GEDC) in 1998, with the charge of growing GEDC into a national DSO. Under his guidance and leadership, GEDC has grown from a Michigan based DSO with 21 dental centers, to an elite DSO with over 235 practices across ten states with revenue exceeding $300 million.  GEDC is one of the largest DSO’s in the United States and currently has over 125,000 unique patient visits a month and offers all facets of dental care to its valued patients. The Company provides full service dental care to blue collar and middle class patients who have some level of insurance coverage or who need dental care at an affordable price.

Doug Brown has led large Dental Support Organizations (DSOs) since 1998 and in April 2011 he assumed the CEO role for Affordable Care, Inc. (ACI), a DSO based in Raleigh, North Carolina. ACI provides business services to 220+ dental practice affiliates in 40 states. Fifteen years ago, Doug brought together a group of industry leaders, which led to the formation of the ADSO. He has served in various leadership positions within the ADSO, and he currently serves as Co-Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee. Doug previously worked for Arthur Young & Company, several large retail companies, and a management consulting firm that he co-founded.

Steve Spellman joined Midwest Dental Support Center as President in 2013. He was promoted to Chief Executive Officer in May of 2014. In his role, he helps drive continued growth of the business and expand upon its already strong reputation in the dental care community. Steve has played a key role in developing long-term strategies for many top organizations and has a proven track record of process improvement that has made strong businesses even stronger. Steve previously served as Vice President of Finance for Best Buy’s Services business unit, commonly known as Geek Squad, and also held positions with United Healthcare, Sun Country Airlines and Champion Air.

Scotte Hudsmith serves as Chief Executive Officer of Smile Doctors, LLC., overseeing the executive management team as the company expands its unique orthodontics experience across the U.S. Since Hudsmith joined the organization in 2014, Smile Doctors has grown from two Austin-area locations to nearly 40 locations in five states. Hudsmith has more than 25 years of corporate leadership experience, including executive roles in finance, operations, business development and sales and marketing. He specializes in developing and implementing growth strategies in healthcare companies that are private equity backed and has extensive experience coordinating mergers and acquisitions.
